Proteksi Katodik adalah sebuah teknik elektrokimia yang digunakan untuk melindungi suatu permukaan logam dari korosi. Di sinilah proteksi katodik berperan. Dalam teknik ini, logam yang ingin dilindungi diubah menjadi katode, atau elektroda negatif, dalam sel elektrokimia. Dengan cara ini, logam tidak lagi melepaskan elektron dan oleh karena itu tidak berkarat. Sebaliknya, anoda, atau elektroda positif, adalah logam (atau bahan lain) yang secara sukarela melepaskan elektron dan mengalami korosi. Dalam proteksi katodik, anoda ini biasanya disebut “anoda korban” karena mereka ‘berkorban’ untuk melindungi katode.

Proteksi katodik biasanya digunakan untuk melindungi baja, sistem perpipaan, tangki, tiang pancang, anjungan lepas pantai, kapal dan casing sumur minyak onshore. Teknik ini sangat penting dalam banyak industri, termasuk minyak dan gas, maritim, dan konstruksi, karena dapat menghemat biaya yang besar yang mungkin timbul dari kerusakan dan kegagalan peralatan akibat korosi.

Jenis-Jenis Sistem Proteksi Katodik

    Cara Kerja Sistem Anoda Korban

    Dalam sistem ini, anoda korban dihubungkan secara elektris ke logam yang ingin dilindungi, biasanya dengan kabel tembaga. Anoda korban, yang biasanya terbuat dari logam seperti seng, magnesium, atau aluminium, memiliki potensial elektrokimia yang lebih negatif dibandingkan dengan logam yang dilindungi, seperti baja.
